Aug. 12--The baht reached a six-year high of 37.34 to the US dollar yesterday thanks to steady capital inflows and buying by foreign institutional investors.
The currency opened trade yesterday at 37.46/50 to the dollar, and rose to as high as 37.34 before easing slightly in afternoon trade."Baht buying was active throughout the day, led by foreign institutions looking to increase their positions in the stock market," one dealer said.
According to another treasuries dealer the baht had gained ground on speculation that GE Capital and Bank of Ayudhya were close to finalising their investment agreement.
