NSW: Cleaners to rally outside deputy premier's office
Cleaners from inner-Sydney public schools will rally outside the New South Wales deputy
premier's electoral office today in continuing action over proposed new contracts.
Cleaners are concerned new multi-year contracts to clean schools and other public buildings
won't include job security protection, leading to almost 7,000 jobs being given to volunteer
workers.
The NSW Liquor Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union last week launched rolling stoppages
and pickets across the state in protest against the contracts.
The union's NSW president JIM LLOYD says at least 100 cleaners will gather outside
the Marrickville office to voice their concerns.
