QLD:Catastrophe threatens Charleville

The Weather Bureau is warning that if the levee banks protecting the southwest Queensland
town of Charleville fail, the town will be engulfed by a catastrophic flood.

The Warrego River is lapping the top of the town's levee banks.

Senior Hydrologist PAUL BIRCH told the ABC if the water gets to high the water tends
to erode out part of the levee fairly quickly so then it would just open up the river
