Fed: Iraqi MiG cache to become new nation's air force
The 51 Iraqi war planes found by Australian special forces are likely to become thenucleus of a new Iraqi air force.
Defence sources say the planes are unlikely to be destroyed.
They were found last week hidden at the Al Asad air base north-west of Baghdad.
The sources say one may go to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra but most arelikely to be part of the air force of a new, democratic Iraq.
The sources have told AAP the coalition accepts that the new Iraq can't be left militarilynaked in the heavily armed region.
But they say the coalition also has to be sure that the armed forces don't come underthe control of a particular ethnic, religious or clan group.
