Judo: Australian kelly wins bronze in men's judo -100kg

MANCHESTER, Aug 1 AAP - Australian Martin Kelly's decision to become more aggressivepaid off with a bronze medal in the men's judo class of less than 100 kilograms at theCommonwealth Games.
Kelly took just 42 seconds to impose an ippon on Northern Ireland's Mark Montgomeryand snare the bronze at the G-mex Centre in Manchester.
The Australian believed he was passive in his losing semi-final, and took a new-foundaggressor's attitude into the bronze medal bout.
"My problem in the semi was that I backed off too much, so I decided to go for it andit worked a treat," Kelly said.
"In the end I was pretty happy with bronze.
"I felt I was close to the final and was disappointed not to make so I had to group.
"The bronze medal is better than nothing."
Kelly was beaten in his semi-final by England's Sam Delahay in a testing bout whichlasted the five-minute duration.
Delahay was awarded the silver medal after being outclassed in the gold medal matchby Canadian Olympic silver medallist Nicolas Gill.
The other bronze medal in the class was won by Antonio Felicite from Mauritus, thenation's first medal of the Manchester Games.
